New York

The best place to shop is Midtown, all around world-famous Fifth Avenue. The area contains several huge stores, brands and malls. Parallel one can find the Madison Avenue, which is a little nobler: boutiques and European designers can be found here.

Downtown or more precisely SoHo and Tribeca developed to a similarly noble shopping district lately. Designer boutiques, often located in former industrial locations attract many visitors, similar to some of the best restaurants of the city located here.

The Broadway is probably the most famous street worldwide, crossing Manhattan and is not bound to USA’s regular checkerboard pattern, transverse to most streets in Manhattan and ending in Harlem.

Another famous place is the area around the Times Square, where thousands of Americans celebrate New Year’s Eve yearly below glinting billboards and info screens. Actually Times Square is a crossroad between 7th Avenue and the Broadway on a level with 44th street, attracts tourists at day- and nighttime and houses many restaurants, most often international fast food chains.

The Central Park belongs to the biggest of its kind. Many New Yorkers spend time here to relax, jog and bicycle. The park has several lakes, ponds, big lawns and thousands of trees. During the winter ice-skating is a very popular activity here. The Central Park extends from Manhattan (59th street) to Harlem (110th street) and is a welcome contrast to hectic city life.
