The compact inner-city offers excellent shopping, cultural and amusement facilities, always close to the water or a park providing relaxation opportunities. Also generally known worldwide is that Amsterdam is a rather liberal city with respect to sexual pleasures and narcotics, accommodating numerous sex shops, brothels and coffee shops all across the city. As mentioned you should try to rent a bicycle to discover the city; if you are afoot you should stick to the “Grachten”, the small canals, since almost no street is straight and you can lose yourself so easily, even though the inner-city is rather small.
